Did Huck Hit Bhutto to Take Out Thompson?

Posted December 27, 2007 by arlingtonblue
Categories: Benazir Bhutto, Mike Huckabee, fred thompson

CBS reports today:

Mike Huckabee strode out to the strains of “Right Now” by Van Halen and immediately addressed the Bhutto situation, expressing “our sincere concern and apologies for what has happened in Pakistan.

Apologies?  Did Huckabee just apologize for putting out a hit on the former Pakistani PM?  Sounds like it to me…  And the results couldn’t be better for him.  A quick look at Memeorandum shows that the Bhutto buzz has completely killed any momentum that Thompson hoped to generate with his “blogburst” today (you can see it barely hanging on at the bottom).  The entire blogosphere is so focused on this one story that I don’t think Fred a has a chance of raising the money his poor campaign needs to put one ad on in Iowa.

Nice job Huck – I mean in a nothing personal, strickly business kind of way.  Or you probably just have no clue whats going on in regards to foreign policy and probably thought Pakistan was just some sort of Middle Eastern condiment…

Kindergate! Obama Exposed?

From a Barak Obama email today:

When I decided to run for president, I accepted that my opponents would dig through my record looking for something to attack.

I didn’t realize they’d go all the way back to kindergarten.”

Well – you should have! Right now I imagine the dozens of campaign interns currently rummaging through 1st grade transcripts, forged field trip permission slips, and science fair projects that may have had a little too much help from the parents…

To be fair, TPM is sharing that Mark Penn said it was just a gag (but on the other hand Penn said a recent Zogby poll that wasn’t great for Clinton to be one too if I recall correctly when according to Zogby “no other campaign has made as many requests for Zogby polling data over the years as Penn has made on behalf of Clinton.”) So who knows.

A friend of mind was wondering what it must have been like to be in the Clinton strategy room when they were deciding whether or not to leak the truth behind Obama’s life long presidential ambitions. Was the Ragin’ Cajun shouting: “Go for it!”? I don’t know, but for now, I’ll contribute my own discovery to the scandel – look what I was also able to dig up from the Senator’s school days – devastating (click for full size):

MSNBC Focus Group: Carlson Cut the Bow Tie?

Inside Cable News (via Politics1.com) is reporting that Tucker Carlson was ordered to drop his bow tie by MSNBC due to focus group research. I mean really? I honestly don’t know what they’re doing at that network these days – but they appear to be so desperate for ratings that they’ll do anything they think the public wants.

When MSNBC thinks it will get better ratings by copying Fox – they copy. When they think they’ll get better ratings by bashing the war – they’ll do that too. And now when they thought they’d get better ratings by axing Tucker’s signature bow tie – they did that as well?

Now, I usually tend not to agree with Tucker on most issues, but I did find him entertaining. I feel bad for the guy – this on top of MSNBC not discounting the rumors that he was fired a little while ago that spawned a Save Tucker movement (is movement the right word?).

Tucker, if you’re listening I say screw MSNBC and bring back the bow tie. I couldn’t pull it off, but its something that made you, well – you. And maybe that gameshow thing I was hearing about might still work out too. (Sorry about Dancing with the Stars, I was pulling for you…)

Best Twitter Ever – Giuliani?

Being the tech political junkie that I am, I of course subscribe to all the ‘08 presidential candidates’ Twitter accounts, and today I received probably the best one ever:

Now, I know its not an official message, but it still speaks volumes for Giuliani’s online campaign. Other guys on the trail have done a great job – Joe Biden just sent out a Twitter yesterday about a video clip of Chuck Todd on his website that was a great use of the online tool.

Giuliani is still polling at #1 despite his first TV ad airing just last week, but can that really be sustained with such poor attention being paid to online campaigning? I’m not saying you necessarily have to be an early innovator, but I quote the frustrated Giuliani follower: “I wish someone from my campaign would actually use this.”

No – I don’t think icanhascheezburger is actually knocking religion (and truthfully I love the site) but they had to take this picture down from their front page due to complaints:

funny pictures
moar funny pictures

They actually had to close the comments, which were nearing 500, because: “From Cheezburger: I’m closing teh comments cause the page is getting to big to load and causin’ problems in sum browsers.”

Personally, I don’t think they meant to be offensive, but wow – icanhascheezburger was forced to take something down, what is this world coming too? If anything kitekat cat food should probably have thought more about its ad placement.

But in the end, “Egads! Sum ppl. says dis is offensive, sum sez iz just lolz,” I say its a website about funny pet pictures that wasn’t being offensive until someone said they were. Now wherz mah buhket? Thougtz?

Robert Greenwald’s Brave New Films has launched its newest website – FOX News Porn, and its amazing. The site brilliantly showcases clips that were actually broadcast on Fox that are shall we say slightly risque. The site is definitely worth checking out, you might want to wait till you out of the office though…

Here is the video from the front page:

Davis is Done

Washington Posts’ The Fix amongst others are reporting that Rep. Tom Davis announce that he will not run for the VA Senate seat being vacated by Sen. John Warner. You can’t really blame the guy in light of the circumstances – he’s polling 24 points behind Mark Warner and the recent decision of the Republican Party of Virginia to have a convention instead of a primary also hurts him. It should be noted that former VA Gov. Jim Gilmore isn’t polling any better than Davis against Mark Warner, but at this point it looks like cut and run is the best move Davis could make right now. Not exactly sure when he is expected to announce this officially, but the money is on Thursday.

MyDD is also reporting the story.

Paul Simon Pushes SCHIP

Cross-posted at Raising Kaine:

Calling on Republicans who voted against SCHIP to reevaluate their positions, Paul Simon spoke out on Huffington Post yesterday. You can also see him speaking here at YouTube. His call to action on Huffington is definitely worth reading and helps to show how important this legislation is. We’re coming down to the wire on this legislation and we are extremely close to overturning Bush’s veto.
