Best Twitter Ever – Giuliani?

Being the tech political junkie that I am, I of course subscribe to all the ‘08 presidential candidates’ Twitter accounts, and today I received probably the best one ever:

Now, I know its not an official message, but it still speaks volumes for Giuliani’s online campaign. Other guys on the trail have done a great job – Joe Biden just sent out a Twitter yesterday about a video clip of Chuck Todd on his website that was a great use of the online tool.

Giuliani is still polling at #1 despite his first TV ad airing just last week, but can that really be sustained with such poor attention being paid to online campaigning? I’m not saying you necessarily have to be an early innovator, but I quote the frustrated Giuliani follower: “I wish someone from my campaign would actually use this.”

Its so easy to use you’d think that Rudy would have got someone on top of it. I’m sure Ron Paul is Twitter happy.

While online campaigning is going to be huge. I don’t think that Twitter is going to be the vehicle by which it is accomplished. I haven’t read any statistics on the Twitter demographic breakdown, but honestly I think that the people that would be most likely to follow a candidate through their Twitter, would be those also most likely to follow the same candidate through their blog.

Also, maybe its the professionalism of the thing? Does sending a message from Twitter really make you seem like a real candidate over, again, say a blog, its hard to say, and I’m not bashing Twitter, but it does make me wonder, what method is the best one for online campaigning for serious candidates?
